The Tamil Nadu state board (Samacheer Kalvi) books from Class 6-12 ARE the syllabus for TNPSC — history, geography, polity, economy all come straight from them. Read them cover to cover, then add a TNPSC-specific GK guide (Sura/Saraswathi) for revision and current affairs.
Tamil Nadu history (Sangam age, Cholas, Pallavas, Dravidian movement) is very high-yield — do not treat it as optional.
