Mock test strategy: When should I start taking full mock tests?

I have been studying the syllabus for 4 months and have covered about 60% of content. Should I start taking full mock tests now even though my preparation is incomplete? Or should I wait until I finish the entire syllabus? How do successful aspirants use mock tests?

Start sectional/topic-wise mocks now even at 60% syllabus — they expose weak areas early. Begin FULL mocks once you are ~80% done, roughly 8-10 weeks before Prelims, then increase frequency. The point of early mocks is diagnosis and exam temperament, not score-chasing.

Analyze each mock for 2x the time you spent taking it. The analysis is where the marks come from, not the attempt itself.
