IBPS Clerk vs IBPS PO: Should I settle for Clerk if PO fails?

I am targeting IBPS PO but struggling with mains exam cutoffs. Should I also prepare for IBPS Clerk as a backup? How different is the preparation for Clerk vs PO? Is it true that promotion from Clerk to PO is very slow — should I wait for another PO attempt instead?

Prepping Clerk alongside PO is smart — the syllabus is the same, only the difficulty and speed bar differ, so it costs you almost nothing extra and gives a safety net. Clerk-to-PO promotion is slow, true, but a banking job in hand beats another full year of attempts. Keep targeting PO in parallel.
