How to handle exam anxiety on the day of State PCS Prelims?

I have attempted 2 state PCS prelims and both times anxiety made me perform below my practice test average. My hands shake, I make silly mistakes, and my mind blanks on familiar questions. What techniques — meditation, deep breathing, preparation routines — actually help with exam anxiety?

Anxiety on D-day usually comes from under-rehearsed exam conditions, not under-preparation. Take enough full mocks in real exam timing so the hall feels routine. On the day: box-breathing (4-4-4-4) before the bell, attempt easy questions first to build momentum, and accept that a few unknowns are normal — do not let one tough question spiral.

This helped — I started simulating the full 2-hour Prelims weekly. The shaking reduced a lot once the format stopped being a surprise.
