OPSC Prelims – Pattern Analysis & What the PYQ Hub Reveals

We broke down years of OPSC Prelims papers using the PYQ Hub. Here are the topic-wise question distribution, high-frequency areas, and exam shifts you should prepare for.

OPSC Prelims doesn't publish a detailed topic-wise blueprint — but the last five years of papers tell a clear story. We tagged every question from 2020–2024 by subject and sub-topic. Here's what showed up most, what's shifting, and what you should prioritise for 2026.

High-frequency areas

Don't leave these to chance

  • Polity: Fundamental Rights, DPSPs, Parliament, Governor, emergency provisions. State legislature and Odisha-specific provisions appear regularly.
  • History: Freedom movement, Odisha history (Marathas, Paikas, temples, culture), medieval India.
  • Economy: Budget, fiscal policy, schemes (central + Odisha), banking terms. Scheme names and launch years are frequently asked.
  • Current Affairs: Last 12–18 months; state schemes, state budget, national indices, appointments, summits.
State GK is non-negotiable. Rivers, dams, festivals, tribes, districts, and state schemes alone can account for 8–12 questions. Filter your CA and static GK to include Odisha-first content.

Shifts over the years

What's changed (2020 → 2024)

State-specific questions in History and CA have increased. Environment and biodiversity show up more. Conceptual polity still dominates; rote dates have reduced slightly in favour of application.

What to expect in 2026

Practical takeaways

Plan your prep with Polity and History (including Odisha) as pillars. Allocate solid time to Economy + schemes and Current Affairs (national + state). Don't ignore Reasoning and Science — they are smaller but consistent. Use PYQs by topic so you see exactly how questions are framed; PSCPrep.ai maps every practice set to this pattern.

Key takeaways

  • · Polity + History (incl. Odisha) + CA = ~48% of the paper. Prioritise these.
  • · State GK and state CA are rising. Include Odisha schemes, budget, and culture in your routine.
  • · Use topic-wise PYQs to align your revision with actual exam weightage.
